Summer Kicks Off in Style: Inexpensive Hostess Gift Ideas

Memorial Weekend honors our service members and veterans.  We salute you all and thank you for your service.

If you’re like me, you love a parade (our hamlet’s little march and ceremony is tomorrow.)

The long Memorial weekend has also come to be the official kick-off to summer.

If your holiday plans include visiting with friends or family, you’ll need to think about bringing a hostess gift.

Miffed about the gift?  Here’s some suggestions:

  • Flowers, Herbs, or a small potted Plant.  If you do bring flowers, please bring the cut flowers or herbs, please choose ones that are in an arrangement or in a beautiful or fun vase.  You can repurpose juice cans or mason jars, too.  Tied with some raffia.  This way, your host doesn’t need to stop what their doing to do the extra work to cut and arrange.

  • Wine, Beer, or mixed drinks in cans.  Or perhaps some bespoke cocktails (inspired perhaps by my Art of the Garnish book?! wink)

  • Posh up your Happy Hour! My hand-painted Cocktail Napkins for a Cause are certainly the perfect hostess gift.  You can share the good-news stories behind the Ladies Who Lunch Conversations guests and their charities, while sipping your French 75!   The set comes lovingly beribboned in an organza gift bag.

  • You can also bring flavored, homegrown vinegars or shrubs.

  • Homemade candies

  • I love to bring that All-American treat: maple syrup.

  • Guest soaps are another lovely gift.

  • A board game or puzzle (that you can help complete upon your next visit… If you play your cards right.

  • Oh, and pretty playing cards are also great gifts. Vintage makes it extra nice to gift.

    1. You are so right! Of course, I love and highly recommend my Art of the Garnish napkins & book :) but I also know how the flowers & plant will be appreciated long after the holiday. And the playing cards are so sweet! Let's bring back card games ~ so sociable. There used to be Bridge & Canasta Clubs! Happy Holiday.
